Description

Spend a day in Venice and discover all the highlights!

With A Day in Venice private guided tour we meet you at the cruise terminal, and take you to the hub of the city: St Mark’s Square. The tour begins with the Doge’s Palace, the most famous historical building of Venice. The Palace was far more than the residence of the Head of State, the Doge. It was the home of the governing councils, the seat of the law courts and even the State Prison. Visiting the old house of power of the past Venetian Republic you’ll learn about the origins of Venice, and how it became the capital of a vast empire. The mythological paintings celebrate the glory of Venice and show the fascination of the Venetian School of Painting. Crossing the Bridge of Sighs you’ll see the “new” Prison of Venice built starting from the end of the 16th C.

Your guide will then take you to see the Basilica of Saint Mark to admire about two acres of golden mosaics. You will see also the magnificent Golden Screen, decorated with almost 2.000 precious stones.

The second part of A Day in Venice will be on a boat, to admire the Venice and the Venetian Lagoon from a different point of view.

You’ll realize how large is the  Lagoon, and how important is this unique natural environment.

The tour includes the visit to Murano, to see one of the best glass making workshops producing artistic glass. At the end of the tour you will ride back to St. Mark’s Square.

On request we can organize a transfer back to the cruise port

Venice with Limited Mobility: A Complete, Honest Guide to Accessible Travel in One of the World’s Most Extraordinary Cities

The first thing to say about Venice and accessibility is this: Venice is significantly more accessible than most visitors with limited mobility expect, and significantly less accessible than an ideal city would be. Both of these facts are important, and this guide addresses both honestly.

Venice with Kids: The Complete Family Guide to One of the World’s Most Extraordinary Cities

The most common concern parents have about bringing children to Venice is that the city will not be child-friendly. No playgrounds (or very few), lots of bridges to carry pushchairs over, a complex street network that seems designed to confuse adults let alone children, and the general assumption that culture-heavy destinations are better suited to […]

Venice Walking Tour: Three Routes, Every Kind of Visitor, One Extraordinary City

Venice is, in its most fundamental character, a walking city. There are no cars, no bicycles, no motorbikes, no wheeled transport of any kind in the historic centre. Everything and everyone moves on foot across the 400 bridges that connect the city’s 118 islands, through the network of calli (streets), sotoporteghi (covered passageways), campielli (small […]

Venice for Foodies: The Complete Guide to Venetian Cuisine

Venetian cuisine is one of the most underestimated regional food traditions in Italy — overshadowed in the popular imagination by the pizza of Naples, the pasta of Bologna and the simplicity of Tuscan cooking, despite being arguably more distinctive than any of them. This is partly a problem of geography: Venice’s food culture is genuinely […]
