Description

Highlights of Venice: Saint Mark’s Square, backstreets and Murano.

Highlights of Venice begins with an introduction to the origins of Venice and an overview of the most important attractions located in the heart of the City: the Doge’s Palace with the Bridge of Sighs and the “new” Prison, St. Mark’s church, the Campanile and the Clock Tower.
The golden interior of the Byzantine Church of St Mark will take your breath away, with two acres of glowing outstanding mosaics  you will almost touch when we’ll reach the Loggia, and enjoy a wonderful view of the Square of Saint Mark. Here you will admire the famed original Four Horses, as well as their copies.

The tour continues  through the backstreets, leaving the crowd behind, to discover some of the peaceful corners of the city. We’ll reach Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (Saints John and Paul), one of the most interesting monumental areas of the city of Venice. The Campo is dominated by the majestic Gothic basilica (known as  “Pantheon of the Doges“) which gives the name to the Square. You will also see the celebrated equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni made by the sculptor Verrocchio (Leonardo’s master).

It’ll be then time to board a luxury boat and take a ride through the Venetian lagoon to discover its natural features, and eventually reach the Island of Murano. Here you will see how the outstanding world famous glass is produced. You will admire the celebrated glass masters shaping with incredible ability authentic works of art. There will be some time for shopping, and then return back to Venice.
