Description

Venice Masterpieces private guided tour of  Venice Renaissance.

Venice Masterpieces begins from Saint Mark’s Square. You will meet your qualified guide and will take a private boat to get to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Here is where Palladio designed one of his greatest architectural achievements.  Andrea Palladio started to build the church in 1566, taking inspiration from the classical style of Ancient Rome’s pagan temples.

The two major works of art  in the church are the  Last Supper and the Gathering of Manna,  painted by Tintoretto. Your guide will uncover the cultural and historical background  the most important artistic decoration. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a stunning panorama of Venice and its Lagoon from the top of the bell tower.

The tour continues  on a private boat   to reach the church of San Sebastiano. The building was designed in the 16th century by the famous architect Scarpagnino. The church contains  one of the most colorful interiors of Venice, characterized by beautiful canvasses decorating the ceiling, as well as by frescoes with monumental illusionistic architectural perspective, made by Paolo Veronese.  You will have also the opportunity to admire a painting by Tiziano (Titian).

There will be time for lunch before continuing the tour. We will then reach the majestic gothic church of the “Frari” (Friars), one of the most famous in Venice.

As you’ll step into the church your attention will immediately be drawn to Titian’s most well-known, and revolutionary composition: the Assumption (1518). The Frari’s church is also rich in sculpture of all styles. Especially relevant is Donatello’s St. John the Baptist.  Other great masterpieces are Giovanni Bellini‘s  Triptyc, and the equally innovative Titian’s Pesaro Madonna (Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro).

Venice Art and History: A Complete Guide to the City’s Greatest Masterpieces

There are cities with great art, and there are cities that are themselves works of art. Venice is rare among the places in the world that belong to the second category — a city where the architecture, the paintings, the sculptures and the urban fabric itself constitute a single, continuous artistic achievement that unfolded over […]

First Time in Venice? Here’s Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

There is no city in the world quite like Venice — which means there is also no city quite like Venice to arrive in for the first time, map in hand, with no idea which way is north. The streets do not go where you expect them to. The bridges appear without warning. The water […]

Venice in One Day: The Perfect Itinerary and Why How You Visit Matters

One day in Venice. For millions of travellers every year, that is the reality — a single day to take in one of the most complex, layered and visually overwhelming cities on earth. Why a Private Boat Tour is the Best Way to See the Venice Lagoon

Most visitors to Venice walk the same well-worn path: St. Mark’s Basilica, the Rialto Bridge, a gelato, and back to the hotel. It is a perfectly fine itinerary — but it misses the point entirely. Venice was not built for land. It was built for water. The city’s soul, its scale, and its centuries of […]
