Description

Enjoy the Venice Experience: the Doge’s Palace, ice cream and gondola!

The Venice Experience private guided tour starts at the cruise terminal of Venice. Your guide will meet you by your ship check-point and will take you by boat to the Square of Saint Mark. This is the hub of Venice surrounded by the most sumptuous buildings of the city. You will visit the Doge’s Palace, once the headquarter of Venice government for over a thousand years. It was at the same time the residence of the Doge of Venice. The exquisite building is richly ornamented both inside and outside.

Your guide will narrate the peculiar political system of the Most Serene Republic, and illustrate the paintings of Tintoretto and Veronese. The huge  Chamber of the Grand Council contains the largest canvas in the world, and offers a beautiful view over the Basin of St Mark . You will then walk through the celebrated Bridge of Sighs and visit the State prison of the Venetian Republic.

You will then take an orientation walk around Saint Mark’s Square, to admire all the surrounding monuments, before taking a break and sitting at one of the renown elegant coffee houses of the Square of Saint Mark, to enjoy an ice-cream, or a drink, and listen to their music entertainment.

Your Venice Experience will continue with a relaxing gondola ride: your gondolier will paddle you through the silent canals of the City as well as through the Grand Canal.

On request we can organize an optional transfer back to the ship.

Venice Solo Travel: Why Going Alone Is the Best Way to Experience One of the World’s Greatest Cities

Venice and solo travel are made for each other. This is not the conventional wisdom — the conventional wisdom says Venice is a city for couples, for romantic weekends, for the honeymoon gondola ride at sunset. And Venice is absolutely all of those things. But it is also, and perhaps more profoundly, a city for […]

Venice with Limited Mobility: A Complete, Honest Guide to Accessible Travel in One of the World’s Most Extraordinary Cities

The first thing to say about Venice and accessibility is this: Venice is significantly more accessible than most visitors with limited mobility expect, and significantly less accessible than an ideal city would be. Both of these facts are important, and this guide addresses both honestly.

Venice with Kids: The Complete Family Guide to One of the World’s Most Extraordinary Cities

The most common concern parents have about bringing children to Venice is that the city will not be child-friendly. No playgrounds (or very few), lots of bridges to carry pushchairs over, a complex street network that seems designed to confuse adults let alone children, and the general assumption that culture-heavy destinations are better suited to […]

Venice Walking Tour: Three Routes, Every Kind of Visitor, One Extraordinary City

Venice is, in its most fundamental character, a walking city. There are no cars, no bicycles, no motorbikes, no wheeled transport of any kind in the historic centre. Everything and everyone moves on foot across the 400 bridges that connect the city’s 118 islands, through the network of calli (streets), sotoporteghi (covered passageways), campielli (small […]
