Product Description

Venice Masters of Colour: Veronese and Tiepolo.

Venice Masters of Colour is a private guided tour designed to discover two of the temples of the Arts in Venice, both located away from the crowded area. The tour will offer you the opportunity to admire some of the most impressive frescoes and canvasses painted by two of the most important Venetian painters: Paolo Caliari known as Veronese, and Gian Battista Tiepolo.

Veronese was a painter of extraordinary qualities with a ravishing decorative talent, fond of striking illusionism, shimmering colors and curious perspective. He spent many years decorating the church of San Sebastiano, such a comprehensive monument to Veronese, where he left the most well preserved cycle of frescoes in Venice: a thematically unified interior that blurs the bounds of art and reality. This is also the church where the artist is buried.

The tour will continue with a short walk to reach the nearby  Scuola Grande dei Carmini, an elegant baroque building built by  Baldassare Longhena, one of the greatest exponents of Architecture of 17th century. Today, as it was in the past, this is the seat of one of the five still active fraternities in Venice, representing the tangible heritage of the Venetian Republic. The Scuola arose from a lay women’s charitable association founded in 1597.

The interior of the Scuola was decorated by  Tiepolo between 1740 and 1747 with eight paintings dedicated of Our Lady of the Carmel. Successful from the beginning of his career, the artist has been described by Michael Levey as “the greatest decorative painter of eighteenth-century Europe, as well as its most able craftsman“.
