Description
Another Venice to visit the areas usually left unexplored.
Another Venice begins exploring the district of Castello. Here you’ll stray through the typical Venetian alleys. You will discover some of the most appealing monuments like the church of San Francesco della Vigna. This Renaissance buildings was built at the middle of the 16th century. It was then enriched with the white stone façade designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio. We will walk towards the most eastern islands of Venice. Here, in the earliest days, there used to stand a “castle” after which this district of Venice is still named.
The tour will then take you to see the world’s first industrial zone: the Arsenale. Here the galleys, and large merchant vessels where built in the past. This dockyards was the foundation upon which the city’s maritime supremacy relied. There will be the opportunity to discuss in details the MOSE, the controversial system of flood gates. From there you will also enjoy a spectacular panorama of the Lagoon.
It’ll be time now for a boat tour to relax and enjoy the lagoon and some of the small canals of Venice. You will then rich, on the opposite side of the city, the district of Santa Croce. There will be time for a lunch break if requested.
The walking tour will then continue in the direction of Rialto through a labyrinth of alleys which satisfies any “addict of the picturesque”. You will come across scenes that will have you reaching for the camera every other minute!
We’ll see the lovely campo San Giacomo dell’Orio (quite a puzzling name!), large and picturesque, but difficult to find on your own. There will be several impressive churches on the way, containing extraordinary paintings that we can see, if you want. The tour will be at your own pace.
We’ll end the tour by the Rialto bridge enjoying a glass of wine at one of the celebrated typical Venetian osteria (tavern)!
