Description
Venice Masterpieces private guided tour of Venice Renaissance.
Venice Masterpieces begins from Saint Mark’s Square. You will meet your qualified guide and will take a private boat to get to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. Here is where Palladio designed one of his greatest architectural achievements. Andrea Palladio started to build the church in 1566, taking inspiration from the classical style of Ancient Rome’s pagan temples.
The two major works of art in the church are the Last Supper and the Gathering of Manna, painted by Tintoretto. Your guide will uncover the cultural and historical background the most important artistic decoration. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a stunning panorama of Venice and its Lagoon from the top of the bell tower.
The tour continues on a private boat to reach the church of San Sebastiano. The building was designed in the 16th century by the famous architect Scarpagnino. The church contains one of the most colorful interiors of Venice, characterized by beautiful canvasses decorating the ceiling, as well as by frescoes with monumental illusionistic architectural perspective, made by Paolo Veronese. You will have also the opportunity to admire a painting by Tiziano (Titian).
There will be time for lunch before continuing the tour. We will then reach the majestic gothic church of the “Frari” (Friars), one of the most famous in Venice.
As you’ll step into the church your attention will immediately be drawn to Titian’s most well-known, and revolutionary composition: the Assumption (1518). The Frari’s church is also rich in sculpture of all styles. Especially relevant is Donatello’s St. John the Baptist. Other great masterpieces are Giovanni Bellini‘s Triptyc, and the equally innovative Titian’s Pesaro Madonna (Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro).
