Description

Venetian Painting  private guided tour traces the development of Venetian art from the 14th to 18th centuries.

The achievements of many artists of the Venetian painting are sometimes disregarded. Often when people think of art, they usually think of Florence. Yet, the achievements which distinguish Venetian painting are equally important, but simply very different… and complex.

So we’ll just say that in Florence the approach was more rational, based on scientific observation and accurate drawing. By contrast in Venice, artists seemed more inclined to perceive the world through their sense and sensibility. Their links with Constantinople and its craftsmen in mosaics, plus the atmosphere of the lagoon probably taught the painters to use colors in a more deliberate way. Therefore the features of the Venetian School were  mostly concerned with colors and light.

By all means,  the best place to understand the development of Venetian painting is the Accademia Galleries. It’s a journey through the evolution of Venetian Art. You’ll start from the 14th century, when the strong Venetian affection to Byzantine Art gradually gave way to Gothic influences. Quite intriguing are the  story-telling canvasses by Carpaccio, inspired at the medieval bestseller: the Golden Legend by Jacopo da Varazze.

You will admire the celebrated surprising humanity of Giovanni Bellini‘s Madonnas, and the enigmatic paintings of a genius like Giorgione. And most of all, the three great Venetian masters Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. They dominated Venetian painting in High and Late Renaissance, establishing unique aesthetic values as well as peculiar painting techniques.

Venetian Painting tour will eventually discuss the 18th century last wave of artistic genius like Giambattista Tiepolo and great view painters like Canaletto and Guardi, who accompanied the thousand-year-old Republic of Venice to its final days.

The Venice Sunset Tour: Why Golden Hour on the Lagoon Is an Experience Unlike Any Other

There is a particular quality to the light in Venice in the hour before sunset. It has been painted by Canaletto, Turner and Monet. It has been described by Henry James, Jan Morris and John Ruskin. Photographers travel from across the world to capture it. And yet all of these attempts — however skilled, however […]

Venice is in a paradox. It is one of the most visited cities on earth — welcoming somewhere between 25 and 30 million visitors a year into a historic centre with a resident population of fewer than 50,000 people — and it is also one of the most fragile. The same qualities that make it […]
