This tour offers you the opportunity to experience directly how the most exclusive
Venetian workshops still create their typical products of crasftmanship, still completely handmade as they were centuries ago.
You can choose to spend few hours making your own mask, or admiring how marble paper is produced or even visiting one of the last
dockyard creating the most famous Venetian means of transport, the gondola.
Make your own mask! In the past the
use of masks was so widespread that the maskmakers had thei own official
artisan status as early as the 15th century. You will see how a papier-maché
mask come to life and and then, under the mask maker guidance, you will learn and decorate a masks for your own.
Visit a gondola's dockyard! Once
the private transport for the nobles of Venice, the gondola is a masterpiece
of boat building. There are specialized gondola yards, called squeri,
where this peculiar world-wide known boats are built. We will arrange
for you a private special visit to one the few still active squeri in
Venice.
Discover how marbled paper is created! The technique
of marbling paper originated in Japan around the year 1000, and spread
towards the West, where craftsmen had the idea of using gum instead of
water as a base for the dipping liquid. Known through the Arab world in
the Middle Ages, marbling finally reached Europe in the 15th century. The
technique offers unlimited decorative possibilities, for each sheet of
marbled paper is entirely unique.
